Hector finds a new home

Hector the Wirehaired German Pointer

This is Hector, he is one of two dogs rescued last week by the amazing Wild at Heart Foundation, I was asked to assess both dogs for temperament and soundness to help find suitable forever homes. Both were well balanced and yearning for human interaction. Hector was found a fantastic new home and I helped with the initial introduction to the families existing dog.

The introduction went very well between the two dogs and the excited family. Hector did show some lead reactivity towards other dogs that he walked past including barking and lunging. However, this was not intense and with careful handling and some training in place I was sure this small issue could be overcome.

We invited Hector along to Homeward Hounds Training classes, on arriving he entered the hall slightly overwhelmed by the amount of dogs all in one place. However, in no time at all he was weaving in between the other dogs and was really relaxed and confident around them.

The whole experience was extremely rewarding for David and everyone involved, seeing a dog being taken from a sad place to a loving home was such a lovely thing to be part of. The Wild at Heart Foundation done a great job with rehoming Hector and his new family are just perfect for him.
